XP network problems

The file sharing and remote network on the laptop stopped working over the weekend. It can access shared network resources and log on other XP boxes remotely but not the other way around. The error message is "Windows can not find the client or it does accept new connections."

First, I tried to install NetBIOS, the file sharing start working after that, but not the remote desktop. Then I realized that I imported two new VPN profiles that supposed to work only on Cisco VPN v.4.06 or later, while mine is only v.4.02a. So uninstalled the 4.02a and remote desktop works. They installed the vpn v4.06, everything back together.

Since the X31 I had at home has never had remote desktop working, may be it's the same reason? It's worth trying.
