XP Remote networking problem

The vpn trick didn't work on the x31. It has the problem that the Terminal Service wouldn't start, even manually. May be need to reinstall that service, but how? The X31 doesn't have CD/DVD drive, so loading the XP installation DVD becomes a serious problem.
