XP network problems
The file sharing and remote network on the laptop stopped working over the weekend. It can access shared network resources and log on other XP boxes remotely but not the other way around. The error message is "Windows can not find the client or it does accept new connections."
First, I tried to install NetBIOS, the file sharing start working after that, but not the remote desktop. Then I realized that I imported two new VPN profiles that supposed to work only on Cisco VPN v.4.06 or later, while mine is only v.4.02a. So uninstalled the 4.02a and remote desktop works. They installed the vpn v4.06, everything back together.
Since the X31 I had at home has never had remote desktop working, may be it's the same reason? It's worth trying.

Racial Profiling: Prejudice or Protocol?
It's a very complicated question. I've been thinking about it from time to time but never have an answer yet, while mostly sided with ACLU who firmly objects any forms of racial profiling.
There are many ways people being put into different groups given it's the color of their skin, religion, education, credit score, cars they drive, etc. Although we want to be seen as a unique person, we expect to be treated equally. In real life, it's not going to happen. You will be treated differently based on these factors. Some are acceptable, some are not. It is complicated and very difficult, if impossible, to justify which ones are okay. Nevertheless, one of the root of racial prejudice originated from the fact that the appearance between different races are so obvious, that it's an easy way out though not the correct one in most of the cases.
There're many movies dealing with the subject but two of them touched me the most: A time to Kill (Yahoo, Movieweb) and Crash, both of which happened to feature my alumna, the beautiful and talented Sandra Bullock. In A time to kill, S. L. Jackson was telling M. McConaughey (or something like that): "do you see me as the same as you? We look different and will always been treat that way."
There are many serious and meaningful discussion on this subject, but what I watched today on FoxNews tonight is certainly not one of them. The host, John Kasich, is very biased and keep interrupting the guest who's criticizing racial profiling. While watching the program, I started to ask myself the question, does my safty worth that much if it means to sacrifice civil liberty of millions of other people just because their skin color and religion?

The Bush supreme Court nominee: John G Roberts Jr
He is conservative right. Bush at least own that to his supporters. The question is how much? It's probably true that nobody really knows until (if confirmed) he starts rule on some hot issues a few years down the line. Nevertheless, we can still smell some indications through the confirmation process. So Please don't jump on some quick conclusions and give him (and Bush) a chance, unless the Democrats want to stall everything till the next election, which is a long long time.

Fire Karl Rove?
As his lawyer Robert Luskin put it: Karl didn't disclose the name of the CIA operative, but only that she's the wife of Wilson. Is this enough for a conviction? Not according to Luskin, who had accepted more than half a million dollars in gold bars from a Drug lord (who he failed to defense) and said he didn't know it's dirty money.
For all matters concerned. Karl Rove did break the law and should be sent to jail. On top of that, the question the prosecutor didn't even bother to ask is when and what was this matter being discussed between him and George. The answer to that question, George never knew about this (as with everything else), or he knew about this and didn't think other people would find out, will only lead to one conclusion though: George's an idiot (which is what he's known for).
